About the Walk
What is the Queensland Legal Walk?
The Queensland Legal Walk is an annual walk that raises funds to increase access to justice for disadvantaged and marginalised Queenslanders. In 2024, the walk will kick off at 7am on Tuesday 14 May with organised walks taking place in locations across Queensland.
Why do we Walk?
The Queensland Legal Walk is an opportunity to celebrate the power of pro bono and continue our commitment to providing access to justice for disadvantaged and marginalised Queenslanders.
With the cost-of-living crisis, the barriers to justice have never been higher for already vulnerable communities. The funds raised by our Walkers help LawRight in its work to remove these barriers by providing free legal assistance to vulnerable Queenslanders.
Read more stories about our impact here.
When does the Walk happen?
The Walk is on 14 May 2024, which is National Pro Bono Day and part of Law Week. The Brisbane Walk kicks off at 7am, as do most of our regional Walks. Check out our Where to Walk page to see the exact start time of your local Walk.
Where can I Walk?
While participants in the Queensland Legal Walk 2024 are welcome to walk for pro bono in any neighbourhood they choose, planned walks will be taking place in Brisbane, Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns, the Gold Coast & the Sunshine Coast. Everyone is welcome to join!
Find the details of your local walk on our Where to Walk page.
How do I register for the Walk?
It's simple to join the Queensland Legal Walk 2024. Click here to register and set up an online giving page. Your friends, family and colleagues can then sponsor you through your fundraising page.
For more information about registration, see our Registration section below.
Registration
How do I register as an individual?
Click here and follow the prompts to register as an individual Walker.
Registration involves buying your Walk ticket, and setting up (or logging in) to a JustGiving account to create your fundraising page.
How do I register a Team?
Click here and follow the prompts to submit a Team registration. Once you’ve submitted the form, we will register your Team and send you an invoice for payment within the week
*Please note, Team pages will be set up for Teams to raise money collectively. Individuals will be noted, but cannot individually fundraise. If your team would prefer funds to be raised by individuals, please email comms@lawright.org.au, and we can send you alternative instructions, however we cannot set up your page for you.
Is there a registration fee?
Yes, the Walk is $40 per Walker for standard entry, and $30 per Walker for students, concession card holders and community legal centre staff.
To apply the concession discount, please enter the code QLWC24.
Is there a discounted ticket option?
Yes! We are pleased to offer a discounted ticket option of $30 for students, concession card holders, and those who work at other community legal centres. If this describes you, please enter the code QLWC24 when you are purchasing your ticket. The discount will then be automatically applied.
How do I join a Team?
Teams are organised by their Team Leader - please contact your Team Leader and ask them to add you to their Team.
If you are trying to join a regional Team (e.g. the Tamborine Toddlers, Team DSWQLA), please follow these instructions:
- Buy your ticket and create a JustGiving account through our Individual registration site.
- Go to the Team page you want to join (Tamborine Toddlers here, Team DSWQLA here), log in with your JustGiving account in the top right hand corner, and click 'Join Team'.
How do I add someone to my Team?
To add someone to your Team, please send comms@lawright.org.au your updated Team Walker List no later than 7 May 2024, so we can invoice you for all of your Walkers.
That's all you need to do to register your Walkers for the Walk! This year, we are encouraging you to fundraise using one Team fundraising page, so we don't need individual Walkers to create a page or connect it to your Team.
However, if you'd like to announce your new Walkers, you can do this by using the 'Post' feature on your fundraising page, or by adding your list of Walkers to your page description. You can see an example on the LawRight team page.
I've made my page. Why is my name showing up as 'I'm walking for LawRight'?
When you first create a fundraising page, the name of your page is automatically set to "I'm walking for LawRight" as a placeholder. To change this name and make yourself easy to identify to your friends and family, you will need to customise your page and enter a new page title. To edit your page, log in to this website (top right button), click on the profile icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and select 'Edit page'.
Fundraising
How much do I need to raise?
There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but if every walker who registers this year raises $200, or each Team raises $2,000, we will reach our goal of $150,000 to keep vital services going.
For Teams, we welcome teams and contributions of all sizes, and this year we will be recognising all teams that reach fundraising goals of $1k, $5k, $10k, $15k and $20k.
How will my money be used?
All funds support LawRight and access-to-justice initiatives such as the Disbursement Fund. You can find out more about LawRight services at our website: www.lawright.org.au
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes! Any donations to the Queensland Legal Walk are tax deductible.
However, your registration fee is not tax deductible.
Does my registration fee count towards my fundraising total?
Your registration fee won't automatically count towards your fundraising total. However, if you do want to include it in the total, you can use the editing panel on your fundraising page to add it as an offline donation.
Other questions
What if I can’t walk 5km?
If you can’t walk 5km, but would like to join us on the morning, we would love you to see you. All our planned walks finish back at the same location where they started at around 8am, usually with light refreshments and some brief speeches. So even if you’re not walking, you’re welcome to join colleagues for the morning.
