What is the Queensland Legal Walk?
The Queensland Legal Walk is an annual walk that raises funds to increase access to justice for disadvantaged and marginalised Queenslanders. In 2023, the walk will kick off at 7am on Tuesday 16 May with organised walks taking place in locations across Queensland.
How do I sign up?
It is simple to join the Queensland Legal Walk 2023. Click here to register and set up an online giving page. Your friends, family and colleagues can then sponsor you through your fundraising page.
Is there a registration fee?
$40 for standard entry.
$30 for students and concession. To apply this discount please enter the code LRST23.
Is there a discounted ticket option?
We are pleased to offer a discounted ticket option of $30 for students, concession card holders, and those who work at other community legal centres. If this describes you, please enter the code LRST23 when you are purchasing your ticket. The discount will then be automatically applied.
Where can I walk?
While participants in the Queensland Legal Walk 2023 are welcome to walk for pro bono in any neighbourhood they choose, planned walks will be taking place in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville and Cairns. Everyone is welcome to join!
Find maps showing the routes for planned walks here.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes! Your donations to the Queensland Legal Walk are tax deductible.
(please note only includes donations to the walk itself, not your initial registration fee)
What if I can’t walk 5km?
If you can’t walk 5km, but would like to join us on the morning, we would love you to see you. All our planned walks finish back at the same location where they started at around 8am, usually with light refreshments and some brief speeches. So even if you’re not walking, you’re welcome to join colleagues for the morning.
How much do I need to raise?
There is no minimum fundraising requirement but if every walker who registers this year raises $200, we will reach our goal of $150,000 to keep vital services going. Please register, donate to your own fundraising page, then ask your friends and colleagues to donate too.
How will my money be used?
All funds support LawRight and access-to-justice initiatives such as the Disbursement Fund. You can find out more about LawRight services at our website: lawright.org.au.
I've made my page. Why is my name showing up as 'I'm walking for LawRight'?
When you first create a fundraising page, the name of your page is automatically set to "I'm walking for LawRight" as a placeholder. To change this name and make yourself easy to identify to your friends and family, you will need to customise your page and enter a new page title. To edit your page, log in to this website (top right button), click on the profile icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and select 'Edit page'.
How do I register a team of walkers?
There are two ways to register a team -
Option One: Do it yourself! Click on the 'Sign Up' link at qldlegalwalk.org.au, fill out the details of your team members, and pay by card at the end. You can add your whole team in one go by clicking 'add participant' each time you get to the shopping cart, or you can send the sign up link to your team members so they can all register and pay for themselves. If you would prefer to pay via invoice, send us an email at comms@lawright.org.au, and we can invoice you and send you a code you can use to waive the registration fee. Please note if you choose this option, there is a second step: you will need to set up your team & individual fundraising pages. See the below FAQ for more details. Each team member will also need to be registered with a unique email address - we can't accept duplicates.
Option Two: Let us do it for you! Download our bulk registration form, fill in the relevant information, and email it through to comms@lawright.org.au. We will set up your team and personal fundraising pages for you, and send you an invoice for the registration fees.
If you need any help with this process or would like to discuss alternative options, please email us at comms@lawright.org.au or call us on 3846 6317 and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
And don't forget... You can always register some of your team, then come back and add more members later.
Please note: People are only able to donate to individual participants in a team, not the team itself. If you do want to set up a way to collect general donations, you can name one of your individual pages the name of your team and direct your friends, family and colleagues to that page.
I've registered my team myself - what is the next step?
First you need to set up your team on our website! After you register, you will receive an email asking you to claim your fundraising page - click on this email and set up a JustGiving account. From there, you can log in to the Walk website, and set up your personal and team fundraising page.
Secondly your team members will need to set up their fundraising pages and join your team! They will receive an email asking them to claim your fundraising page - they can click on this to set up their JustGiving account. From there, they can log in to the Walk website, set up their personal fundraising page, and join your team.
You can find more information about how to set this all up in our instruction guide here.
If you need any help with this process or would like to discuss alternative options, please email us at comms@lawright.org.au or call us on 3846 6317 and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Does my registration fee count towards my fundraising total?
Your registration fee won't automatically count towards your fundraising total. However, if you do want to include it in the total, you can use the editing panel on your fundraising page to add an offline donation.
